The Media Palace is a pirate TV station, research center, video studio, & media shrine created by local art collective The New Jedi Order. For the duration of the Lumber Party exhibition The New Jedi Order will be working in the gallery, "squatting", in the now abandoned analog TV air space. This is an in-progress research project on analog television transmission. The goal is to better understand the tech behind broadcasting & improve upon the range & strength of the UHF signal coming from the Media Palace. Residents of City Arts & the Annex are invited to break out their antennas & try picking up channel 19. Like Anticopyright, Open Source, & English Digger movements this is community access. Anyone is welcome to airtime (contact The New Jedi Order at 1bit@usa.com). The station is also functioning as a media studio & library. While in the gallery The New Jedi Order is sifting through & archiving hundreds of hours of VHS tape. Many of the tapes will be recycled with new content (taped right from the TV broadcast). Look for these mix video tapes around Baltimore at the Book Thing, Red Emmas, & here in the City Arts gallery.
